Oscar's re-incarceration will be detrimental to his mental state...#Click to view Court hearing (SA)

The re-incarceration of Oscar Pistorius will have a detrimental effect on his psychological state. This is according to psychologist Jonathan Scholtz.

Scholtz, who is the first witness to testify in mitigation of sentence, has described Pistorius as a vulnerable and broken man.

He's told the High Court in Pretoria that the Blade Runner experienced several traumatic incidents while in prison and is doing so now.

Scholtz was on the panel of state psychiatrists and psychologists who examined Pistorius and found he suffered from General Anxiety Disorder but had been fully aware of his actions when he pulled the trigger.

Last year, the Supreme Court of Appeal the culpable homicide conviction of Pistorius and found him guilty of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.

Scholtz says if Pistorius was his private client he would hospitalise him as his depression and post traumatic stress condition has worsened since he first assessed him in 2014.

He says Pistorius seems to have given up - sometimes he is disconnected from the world.

The professor testified that in his opinion, Pistorius would be better suited doing more charity work, giving back meaningfully to society.

Scholtz submitted that the former athlete had indicated he wanted to work with children affected by land mines in Mozambique.
