(Premium Times)Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, who was in the past reported to have died, has appeared in a new video, refuting claims that the Islamic sect has agreed to a ceasefire with theFederal Government of Nigeria.
In a video reported to have been released on Friday, October 31, 2014, Shekau also ruled out the possibility of returning the hundreds of Chibok School girls abducted back in April 2014.
On October 17, 2014, the Nigerian government had announced it was suspending military operations against the extremist group after both sides agreed a ceasefire and that the new development would also see the return of more than 200 girls.
In the recently released video, Shekau also denied links to Danladi Adamu, the man named by the government as Boko Haram’s representative at the talks.
‘We don’t know that impostor called Danladi Adamu, we have never asked him or his like to speak on our behalf because in this war there is no going back’, Mr. Shekau said.
He further claimed that the abducted school girls had been “married off”.
“The issue of the girls is long forgotten because I have long married them off.”
Nigeria's Foreign Affairs Minister, Aminu Wali had earlier made assurances that talks were ongoing to broker the girls' release and that they would be home in the "very near future."
