There was panic in a crowded market in Monrovia, Liberia, when a man infected with the deadly Ebola virus wandered in looking for food.

The patient who was wearing a wristband to show he had tested positive for the disease, was said to have escaped from Monrovia’s Elwa hospital, which last month was so crowded with cases of the deadly disease that it had to turn people away.

In the video, broadcast on Sky News, the infected man is seen arguing with some stallholders as he approached their stand. He was followed at a distance by a crowd.
Health workers dressed in their protective outfits later arrived the scene and tried to convince him to return to the isolation centre but he refused and had to be taken forcefully into a waiting ambulance.

One woman at the scene said: “The patients are hungry, they are starving. No food, no water. The government needs to do more.”
